Kobe is a modern port town. It's the 4th busiest container port in Japan. Upon arrival, I discovered that there was an art exhibit going on using shipping containers as galleries. The ticket included a half hour boat trip. I didn't know about the boat trip until I was at the exit and a young man pointed it out to me on a map and offered me the boat schedule. It was a nice surprise. The art exhibit consisted of more than sixty containers... each one for a different artist. I wandered around the town and found that it has a very charming personality with it's cute cafes and unique boutiques. Chinatown was hectic but I enjoyed the chaos. The last photograph shows damage from the 1995 earthquake. The damaged area is kept as part of a memorial for the victims of that earthquake. More than 6000 lives were lost.
