One New Year's Eve many years ago in Leimert Park, I enjoyed an evening at a blues bar/restaurant that was mostly bar. They served a meal of fried chicken and mashed potatoes on a paper plate. And two glasses of champagne. Not the good stuff but whatever. The performer for the night was an old woman who wore her age in wrinkles, a somewhat sunken body, story-teling eyes, and a crooked hat. She sang her heart out. Beautiful.
That evening with it's down to earth soul and life-being-lived (because that's what it's for) vibe, exemplafies the feeling of that neighborhood - at least from one perspective.
It was voted Neighborhood of the year for 2016 by Curbed LA. But long before Curbed LA pointed to it, Angelinos were skipping into that part of the world to enjoy places like The World Stage with its amazing poets and musicians. If you want character and soul, Leimert Park is a perfect place to buy your next home. It's a place to go out of your way for. It's a place that may not have everything under the sun, but it has a whole lot of something and it's raining smiles. If you grew up in LA and don't know where it is...go have a look. It will warm you up. Community.
